We're looking for a Junior AI Engineer to join a small, high-performing team building the agentic AI systems at the heart of Trengo's product. You'll work closely with experienced engineers to design, build and ship the AI Agents, workflows and automations that handle real customer conversations at scale.
This is a hands-on, build-first role. From day one you'll be writing code, shipping to production and watching real users interact with what you've made. We use AI to accelerate everything we do, and we expect you to do the same. You'll spend your days orchestrating LLMs, designing prompts and context pipelines, wiring up tools and integrations, and using Claude Code as a daily part of how you work.
We don't expect years of experience. We expect curiosity, a strong foundation and real excitement about building with AI. We'll invest in your growth, pair you with people you can learn from, and give you genuine ownership early.
About Trengo
Trengo is on a mission to deliver customer delight. We're building an AI-powered customer engagement platform that replaces repetitive work with meaningful conversations, bringing email, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, live chat and voice together in one smart, omnichannel inbox, with AI Agents that resolve a growing share of conversations automatically.
We're backed by Insight Partners and Peak Capital, we're one of the official WhatsApp Business Solution Providers, and we work as a diverse, international team that believes customer delight always wins. AI isn't a feature we bolted on; it's becoming the core of how our product works and how we build it. That's exactly why we're growing our AI engineering team.
What your role looks like
You will:
Build and ship AI Agents and conversational workflows that power Trengo's customer engagement platform.
Work with LLMs end to end: prompting, context engineering, retrieval, tool use and agent orchestration.
Code with Claude Code every day to move fast, and help us sharpen how the whole team works with it.
Own outcomes: Turn customer problems and rough ideas into working features, with support from senior engineers.
Care about quality: Hold a high bar on quality. Test your work, learn from what breaks, and iterate until it genuinely works.
-
Grow together: Share what you learn, ask good questions and help raise the bar as the team grows.
What you’ll bring
We’d love to meet you if:
You hold a Master's degree in AI, Computer Science or a closely related field.
You're genuinely passionate about AI and you build things for fun: side projects, experiments, things you couldn't stop tinkering with.
You're a strong user of Claude Code, and you've thought about how to make it work for you.
You can code, and you're comfortable in at least one language (Python and/or TypeScript are a plus) and eager to grow fast.
You're early in your career, hungry to learn, take ownership and ship.
You communicate openly, collaborate well and care about the people using what you build.
We mean it about experience: you don't need years on the job. If you have the foundation, the passion and the drive, we want to hear from you.
Nice to have (but not required)
1-2 internship experience in a similar fast pace scale up environment.
Hands-on experience with LLM frameworks, RAG or agent design.
A portfolio, GitHub, blog post or demo of something you built with AI.
Familiarity with cloud platforms, APIs or event-driven systems.
⚙️ Our tech & AI mindset
AI is not a buzzword at Trengo — it’s part of how we build and operate. You’ll work with AI-driven features, automation, data, or tools that help us move faster and smarter. We value thoughtful use of AI that creates real value for customers and teams.
